BLACKTHUMB was originally founded by Phillip Jones and Joshua Boldt as a renegade landscaping company in the environs of Lexington, Kentucky.

Using mostly illegal French labor, they created gardens and water features for some of the city's wealthiest and most corrupt citizens. Their most successful installation was a swimming pool/fish pond built for a wealthy Lebanese undercover agent. Unfortunately, he poured 6 gallons of neon blue toilet bowl cleaner into it, thereby killing all plant and animal life in the entire neighborhood. In fact, every garden installation and water feature was eventually destroyed by Blackthumb's clients. But they always came back and we would build and re-build the same gardens year after year. I suppose that ... once you go black ... And now we make t-shirts? Right....
